Leicester Square “New Comedian of the Year”

Leicester Square “New Comedian of the Year”

The Leicester Square “New Comedian of the Year” competition, held at the Museum of Comedy, is the new act competition produced by Leicester Square Theatre which began in 2009.  Their aim is to have a competition that’s equally enjoyable for contestant and audience alike.  The competition is based at the theatre and runs throughout the Autumn season at the Museum of Comedy, culminating in the final in the Main House at Leicester Square Theatre in December.

The competition is open to any non-professional act who’s been performing for 5 years or less and entries from character acts, musical acts and sketch groups are welcome. The only restriction is that all contestants must stick to 5 minutes of material or risk disqualification – I’m appearing in the heat on 30th September at 5pm!

Beat the Frog, Manchester

Beat the Frog, Manchester

The most unpredictable comedy night in the North which has helped launch: Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, John Bishop, Jason Manford, Sarah Millican and the list goes on.

3 cards are handed out to random lucky members of the audience and up to 10 acts then take to the stage and each try to do 5 minutes of material. If within the 5 minutes all 3 cards go up then the act has lost and must leave the stage, BUT if the 3 cards stay down, that act has successfully ‘Beat The Frog’! They are then invited back to the stage for a clap off at the end of the night which will determine the overall winner.
